DAY 75 // Festive Snail Mail.

Ah my day started off SO freakin' WELL! I got to Skype chat with my long lost buddies in Finland, Landon and Feliiipppeee who were partying it up at 1am. It was so so great to hear their voices..I saw Landon's new hair cut for like 5 seconds..the connection was shit..but at least we got to talk and catch up for a bit. It was Lovely! I miss those two a lot and can't wait till the day we get to reunite.

Before long I was wisked off into town with Cam.. starting our day bright and early with a greasy breakfast at a NEW location..yes, not our usual, we decided to venture down the road a bit to Anderson's little cafe which was pretty delish, (despite the grease and very buttery toast). We also got "Freezechino's" ..which had absolutely no caffeine in them yet enough sugar to keep us buzzing all day. So not our healthiest meal…..

Since it was a super humid day we decided to hit up Apollo's Motel pool again.. we lounged and napped..taking a dip in the water. Then headed to our beloved Reject shop and Woolies for groceries.

Today I bought some bits and bobs to make a special gift for a lovely friend and worked on sending off some festive snail mail to family and friends back home. I couldn't get over how awesome the stamps that she gave me where!! Such a nerdy thing to get excited about..but I loved them.

So here are some snaps from today and the totally awesome stamps I received !

Thats all for today,

DAY 74 // Such a Classic.

Herrroooo. Friday again!
first..
!Farm Update!

So I was beginning to think that we were going to spend three months on this farm and never actually see a brown snake..alive..
Well, today we had a brown snake encounter. Here's how it went.

Cam and I were cleaning the siding of the house in the backyard while Hailey (Ian's 17 year old daughter) was mowing the lawn on one of those large tractor like mowers. At one point she stopped, turned to me and said, "Steph, steph, can you quickly run into the house for me…" her eyes were big and I could tell something was up. Then she said, "Nevermind, stay here". At this point I already knew what she was talking about, I could see the brown snake (about 3 metres long), slithering across the grass maybe, 15 feet from us. She said, "don't move, keep an eye on it, watch where it goes", and ran inside. ( I was freakin' out) 30 seconds later she appears again, loading a rifle. I was like..no way, this chick is crazyyy she's gonna try and shoot the thing.

The snake continues to slither along and Hailey aims the rifle and shoots him once ..(snake guts fly into the bush..) then shoots him again, just before it could hide in the bush. WTF!! The whole time Cam and I were just frozen, watching and thinking, OMG did that just happen?

Haha It was awesome, Hailey had the biggest smile on her face as she said after "I didn't think I'd get him! I never hit the target, but this time I did, twice!" We laughed as Ian came casually walking into the yard to see what all the noise was about.

What an event. A sight I will never forget.. JEEEZ!

Now to the creative bit,
Last night I watched the Classic, "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and thoroughly enjoyed it..I'd seen it before and just love Audrey Hepburn in the film. Her character, Holly Golightly, is so scattered and a little looney yet smart and beautiful and so hilarious.

If you haven't seen it.. do. Such a Classic.

Here's a doodle and some of my favorite quotes and moments from zee movie!
Enjoy!

Until Tomorrow xo

DAY 73 // THE FALLS FESTIVAL!

OK. So i'm freaking out just a little because, out of the blue today,  I bought myself  a ticket to The Falls Festival in Byron Bay for New Years!! I guess it's not THAT out of the blue because this has been something I've wanted to do for awhile now..BUT it's been quite the hectic mess getting here. The tickets are/were? (I'm still confused about this) sold out ..and about a month ago I tried buying one on gumtree, which was a fail, and I got scammed. Lesson learned, Lesson learned..  I received so many texts after that from random strangers selling tickets,  and I just couldn't trust any of them. I couldn't risk it again. So long story short I had given up my Falls Festival dream.

Then today, my friend Bella messaged me that there were (weirdly enough) tickets available again on their site. So I hummed and haww'ed a little bit before I realized, "what am I doing thinking about this!? I need to buy a damn ticket! This is my first New Years in Australia!!"

I am SO excited, and can't wait to experience this festival..it's been way too long since I've been to one and I'm just itching.. The line up is awesome, I reckon it's going to be a similar vibe to Sasquatch Music Festival, with electronic artists in DJ tents and indie bands on the main stages. The Roots are headlining on New Years Eve and other big acts are MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear and Crystal Fighters.

I'm interested in hearing the bands I do know, but also excited to discover local aussie artists and bands  I've never heard of. It will truly be an unforgettable three days of eclectic sounds, art and sunshine :) What a way to cap of the best year of my life..

Thanks for reading!
See you Tomorrow xo

Here's the cute promo video for the festival.. and some photos from previous years and the line up.

DAY 72 // Pretty Pins.

Alright,
I'm hitting a mid-week wall this evening. maybe because Camille and I decided to go on our first run  in…weeks and weeks.. this afternoon in the blazing heat. We nearly conquered 5k's and felt damn good about it, but we've since been lying dead in our rooms waiting for bed time.

Well that's half a lie because I HAVE managed to continue christmas card making and pinning things on Pinterest. (wow I just had to type that word 10 times over because auto-correct kept changing it to interest. annoying.)

I can speak for most girls when saying, Pinterest is mega addiciting. My addiction comes in waves, but on lazy evenings and rainy afternoons it is always there for me to get lost in. So I decided to share some of my resent pins and findings because I have nothing else creative for ya today and who doesn't like looking at pretty things? …exactly.

and remember santa:

ENJOY!
Until tomorrow xo

DAY 71 / Frankie.

17 more days left…17 more days left. YEESSS.
Today we spent another day cleaning, so no real exciting things happening here at the farm. The weather is just not looking good for the poor watermelon crops..its been raining a TON and thunder and lightning storms almost every day (or night), which means the watermelons that haven't been picked (and are unable to be picked because it's too wet) are getting over-ripe and no good. I feel bad for Ian because I can imagine how stressful it must be for a farmer having spent months and months tending to his crops and not to mention plenty of money doing it,  and mother nature just won't give him a break. Good thing Ian's such a calm, level headed dude and takes everything in stride… All you can really say is "C'est La Vie" right?

Now, creative time.
I currently have a couple good reads of the go, one being a super cool aussie magazine called 'Frankie'. Magazines over here (like everything else) are expensive so I haven't indulged in many..but this one is worth the money. Frankie Magazine covers subjects like, design, photography, fashion, travel, music, crafts and art..its pretty much the ultimate hipster lifestyle magazine. I loveee it.

The articles are engaging and worthwhile and the magazine itself is beautifully designed and put together with plenty of consideration and love.

If there was one magazine I'd love to work for in Australia this would be it. And their office is located in Burliegh Heads (which was one of my fave places on the gold coast) ..hmmm time to knock on some doors perhaps?

Heres a few snaps of issue fifty-six that I purchased the other day.

Check you their equally beautiful website here to download past issues and browse articles and photos!

Thanks for reading!

DAY 70 // Getting Festive.

Last night I decided I'd try get into the christmas spirit a little bit. Get a little festive.
I put on an "aussie christmas" playlist that I found on 8 tracks and bobbed my head to the spunky, (very country) versions of the traditional christmas songs…singing about "eskies in the boot" (translation: coolers in the trunk) and dodging kangaroos in a rusty 'Ute'.. hah check out this version of jingle bells.. and sing along mate!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0hTHLAe-8E

Anyways, with some tunes on the go, I started christmas card making.
My cards are always very 'cartoony'.. I like drawing funny characters and telling a story with them. I was very much inspired by the cheesy aussie carols, as I drew,  thinking about all the funny christmas traditions and imagery related to Australia and the holidays... beachs, bbq's, palm trees, surfing, wild animals, summer. I was also inspired by vintage, "Greetings From.." and "Wish You Were Here" postcards. Vintage typography and blog lettering.

mixing the two styles I think I came up with some pretty cute aussie christmas cards to send to friends and family this holiday! Here's some of my inspiration and progress...

DAY 69 // Watermelon Picnic

Sunday Sunday Sundayyyyy.

Today was nice and sunny (unlike last sunday) so Cam and I decided to go for a little wander past our farm to see what else is beyond the creek..and we also thought it'd be a good excuse for another fun little photo-op with the second hand clothes we've bought. We are both wearing outfits that are solely put together from thrifted items.. and rocked the head scarf trend I blogged about the other day. The afternoon was tons of fun, we picnicked on the grass next to this hidden little dirt path surrounded by trees and farm land as far as the eye can see.

Here are some of my fave shots from the day..

Enjoy! xox
