DAY 39 // Heading To The Ocean

! Farm Update !
We have graduated from chipping weeds and spent yesterday in the watermelon fields clearing vines from the tractor paths (easiest job ever..) and today we literally raked leaves..all day (solid arm workout)

AND It's official, it's Friday and we are leaving the farm freakishly early tomorrow morning and heading to the ocean!! I'm still a little in disbelief because this whole vacation idea was nowhere in my brain until 24 hours ago and now its real, we are out of here for almost 2 weeks..

I will be spending my time in Agnes Water while Camille will be hopping around a bit and heading down to Rainbow Beach to do a Fraser Island tour and maybe to Hervey Bay for a night or two. But first we'll spend a couple days together in Agnes hitting up a surf lesson and relaxing on the beach.

I'm excited for this time away but at the same time i've been trying to save money while on the farm to afford to enjoy myself over the holidays and with my family who is visiting in the new year. So for me this time off will consist of not much other than some surfing, reading, sketching, attempting to get rid of my hideous tan lines and taking lots of pictures. Agnes Water, 1770, is a very small beach town with a few hostels and maybe one "tavern" so I doubt I'll get myself in too much trouble.... :)

Depending on what kind of wifi I can get a hold of over the next two weeks, I probably won't be able to blog everyday while I'm away. I know..you all are probably crying right now.. its ok.

But, I won't go back on my goal of doing something creative everyday.. even if I don't post it, i'll do it. Plus, getting myself away from my laptop for a bit is probably a good idea. I feel like I've been living on here lately instead of actually LIVING.

Enough of my banter, here are some photos I took from the last couple days as well as a pic of my "Vacay Must-Haves" .

Cheers to being a beach bum!
See you soon xo

DAY 38 // Peace, Love & Music

! Farm Update !
So, looks like Camille and I may be going on a little vacationnnn.
Ian mentioned to us today over lunch that he'll be leaving on tuesday for a couple weeks on a trip up to the Northern Territory and he feels like it would be best if we take that time off and get away from the farm as well.
Ok, sweet!
The time will still count towards our 88 days, but instead of wearing farm boots and holding chippo's, we'll be in bathing suits relaxing on a beach in Agnes Water. Sounds like a good deal to me. Not sure when we'll be out of here but looks like Saturday or Sunday. Keep ya posted on that !

So along with being busy this afternoon calling hostels and checking bus timetables to get out of this place I started working on another little creative side project I have on the go for a very talented friend of mine back home in Vancouver.

Desiree an amazing singer/songwriter with a big voice and a ton of soul. The first time I heard her voice was when she got up to sing Adelle during karaoke on a thursday at the buck-an-ear pub and I remember thinking HOLy crap this chick in crazy good. Since then she's only continued to grow as an artist, singing and preforming whenever and where ever she can. Her insta-videos are always something I look forward to...her singing a tune in traffic, or strummin' a cute little ukulele in her living room. It doesn't matter where she is, her voice shines. (and makes us all smile :) )

You can check out this talented babe on sound cloud, or on instagram !!

And here's some sneak peaks of what i'm doodling away for her..

DAY 37 // Blog Makeover

OK. So my design A.D.D kicked in and I decided I was bored of the old "blogeightyeight" look and changed it. Again, only in one night.. BUT I really think with just a few minor changes it looks cleaner and more professional.

One thing though that I've realized about being truly confident with your blog is to not get TOO hung up on how the blog looks. It may not be the most unique or eye catching or awesome, from a design sense, but what's more important is that what you put into it IS. You must to be proud of what you are creatively sharing with the world in order to love your blog and for people to love it back. I'm just starting to put this into action myself.. (Thanks to all of you lovely people that follow along with positive feedback!) KEEP it SIMPLE.

That being said, I've always been a fan of simply designed, crisp white background blogs that incorporate great photography and are easy to navigate. So I used these as guidelines for my design make over.

Here's a few of my favourite blogs that are not only designed beautifully but are filled with lovely things too. The perfect combo.

ENJOY!
see you tomorrow xo

DAY 36 // Come Let Go.

Tuesday's seem to be the hardest days of the week for some reason.
And so I've thought about it, and this must be why:
Monday go by fast because we usually have more energy from having the weekend off, Wednesday we have "The Bachelor" to watch and make fun of (it is..sadly, something we look forward to), Thursday means it's almost Friday and Friday means the weekend.

Therefore Tuesday's are shit. They get the shaft.

So the only thing you can really do when frustration hits and the heat and the work is just getting to you and you're pretty much just..grumpy, is lay back, put on a little Xavier Rudd and Let go of it all..

giv'er a shot >>>  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4gQTYGHfRg

Oh and maybe do a little doodle..

Ok, Hears to getting through Tuesday's like champs.

Thanks for reading!
See you tomorrow xo

DAY 35 // Pen Friend

MONDAY!

Today was normal. Work went by quick and I just had a lovely lovely chat with some good friends back in Calgary..so nice to hear their voices and catch up!

For tonight, real exciting stuff planned...I'm going to attempt to make a thai beef stir-fry for dinner and then Cam and I will probably watch another episode of the first season of Man Men. Yah I know, we are so behind the times on this..I've been meaning to start watching for ages and just never have. until now. We're hooked.

My creative post is about about a new and inspiring instagram account that I am following called pen_friend. It's so secret that I have an insta-obsession and it's also so secret that I love typography and design ..and QUOTES, so this new find is right up my ally. Her name is Sharna .. and that's about all I know.

But what I DO know Is this girl has talent. Her feed is full of hand rendered beautiful Calligraphic, free-style type. A mixture of quotes that she gets from others and her own words and thoughts. I love her style and I love that she shares positive messages and words of inspiration through her art.

Definitely worth a follow! Here are some of my favourite posts of hers. {I think she in working on developing an online store and website so stay tuned}

See you Tomorrow ! xo

DAY 34 // "The Hoops"

Alright, so straight to the creative bit..it's not creative in a design sense but it's something that i've wanted to do for awhile.

Those who know me personally know that this year I have developed a love for hoola-hooping. It's a hobbie I picked up thanks to one of my coolest friends back in Van, Emily, who introduced me to the idea of hoola-hooping about 8 months ago and invited me to my very first "hoop jam" in a hidden little studio just off Main Street.

Here I met Ali, a crazy talented hoop artist who teaches and performs with hoola-hoops for a living, she even travels with a circus for a few months out of the year around the East Coast of Canada. She lives and works in the studio and holds workshops and "Hoops Jams" a couple nights a week there for anyone and everyone interested in circus arts..not just hooping, but poi, juggling, juggling sticks, diablo, ribbons, some things I don't even know what they are called..anything goes really. There's music blasting and the occasional beer consumed and you can stay as long as you like.

I felt like I was delving into this new sub-culture of awesome humans. These people were doing things I've never seen before, I felt like I was part of a little circus freak club. The people I met were all so lovely and welcoming, not to mention super talented. Always eager to help you with new tricks or compliment you on some awesome thing you just did. Everyone was learning from one another and sharing the space, while having the best time.. I was hooked.

So before I left on my trip I decided I needed to get some hoops to bring with me, so Ali made we two custom taped, collapsable hoola-hoops that fit perfectly on my backpack. People thought I was a little nuts.."really, you're bringing THOSE with you?" and many laughed, but I didn't care, I knew they were awesome and that's all that mattered. What I didn't know was that they would soon become the two most amazing travel buddies I could have ever asked for.

These hoops have been the start to so many great conversations, budding friendships with strangers, fun afternoons at the beach, wild dorm room parties, hilarious photo op's and endless, endless laughter.

They have been used by all kinds of lovely strangers and friends from young kids to backpackers, boys, girls, boys dressed as girls..even a cab driver and an 80 year old man in a speedo who wanted to "give it a go".

These hoops have touched many hips in 7 months of travel..

So I thought It would be fun to compile all the photos I have taken, of the people who i've met who've tried their hand with the hoops and looked damn sexy doing it.

Enjoy!
Thanks for reading this essay of a post !
